THE Cagayan de Oro Police Office and the Barangay Police will soon team up to provide security in areas where stealing of cable wires is rampant.

This, after the proposal of Councilor Aaron Neri for the creation of such composite monitoring team was supported by the City Council committee on police chaired by Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya. The councilor earlier reported that the streets from Upper Balulang, through Indahag and Macasandig are in darkness because streetlights in these areas are either busted or stolen. The City Engineering Office had been asked to replace the busted lights.Councilor Neri said the cooperation of the barangay officials in the campaign for the protection of the lights and security of the area is necessary. He said he will discuss this with barangay officials in his committee.According to a representative of the COCPO, initial talks had been held with the information technology sector in the aspect of stolen cable wires. He assured that a meeting with owners of junk shops will be called soon.BRIDGESThe team will also be asked to monitor the newly constructed Carmen-Nazareth bridge, after reports that this is being used as a standby area of some groups.Councilor Neri said there are broken bottles in the bridge which proves that drinking sprees are held there. This normally takes place from 8:00 PM to 2:00 AM during weekends, he added.
