Law Requiring Gas Stations To Sell Fuel Products Regardless Of Amount Okayed
by Lorebeth C. Requiroso/city Council Office

FROM now on, it is unlawful for gasoline dealers to withhold sale of gasoline to motorists even if they purchase for a very minimal amount.

This, even as the City Council approved Tuesday an ordinance mandating all gasoline stations to sell fuel products regardless of amount.Councilor President Elipe, chair of the City Council committee on energy, filed the ordinance after receiving complaints that some gasoline stations have a standing policy not to gas up vehicles, especially motorcycles for less than one liter. He said this practice is discriminatory and against the interest of the consumers.Councilor Elipe believes that it is necessary to curtail this practice for the welfare of the people. The ordinance imposes a penalty of P5,000 or imprisonment of six months, or both, at the discretion of the court. The offender, however, will have the option to pay an administrative fine within 72 hours from receipt of notice of violation in the amount of P1,000 and suspension of business permit for one month for the first offense. For the second offense, the violators will have to pay an administrative fine of P2,000 and suspension of business permit for three months and for the third and subsequent offenses, violators will pay P3,000 and will face cancellation of business permits.
