Mayor Jaraula Mulls Completion Of Hospital Building

City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula today vowed to make the J.R. Borja General Hospital operational before the end of April this year.

This as Mayor Jaraula ordered the release of P59 Million for the completion of the 3rd floor of the city government-run hospital which has hindered the utilization of the first two floors of the annex building. Mayor Jaraula said that while the first two floors of the building have already been completed, the same can not be used as the rainwater that accumulates at the third floor will readily flow down and flood the two lower floors. The said condition can be remedied once the third floor will be walled thereby preventing rainwater from flooding it. Mayor Jaraula wanted to fast track the completion of the hospital annex building in time for the next visit of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in Cagayan de Oro on April 30 this year for the re-launching of the Strong Republic Nautical Highway. The city mayor had proposed to President Arroyo to include in the itinerary of her April visit, the inauguration of the city hospital annex building and the Puntod-Kauswagan Bridge. Mayor Jaraula is optimistic that with the completion of the annex building, the city government-owned hospital can expand its medical services to more residents in the city and neighboring places this year. With the opening of the annex building, the city government hospital can accommodate an additional of 100 hospital beds thereby decongesting the number of patients accommodated daily at the old hospital building. The provision of quality health care services is one of the priority programs of the city government. Early last week, Mayor Jaraula approved a P6 Million allocation for another 10,000 indigent families in the city who will be covered under the National Health Insurance Program (NHIP) of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation. Mayor Jaraula will institute measures that will ensure that only deserving families will be identified as beneficiaries of the health insurance program. The new PhilHealth cards will take effect starting July to December this year, to give enough time for the identification of the 10,000 indigent beneficiaries.
