RTA Apprehends 5 Thousand Traffic Violators In February

The Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) apprehended a total of 5,275 traffic violators in February, this year.

In his monthly accomplishment report to City Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula, RTA Administrator Filipino Amoguis disclosed that the apprehensions made by traffic enforcers last month included 5,079 violations of city ordinance and 196 violations of the Trisikad Ordinance.

Of the total number of traffic violators apprehended, 1,430 drivers have paid the corresponding fines for their violations, 49 cases were filed in court, and 3,796 cases are being readied for case filing.

The operations of the RTA last month earned for the city government a total of P281,325.00 in fines and fees paid that included P188,835.00 from apprehension fines; P9,220.00 from traffic clearances issued; P46,120.00 from traffic warrant fees; P2,590.00 from cases filed; P28,660.00 from impounded vehicles; P2,400.00 from confiscated items; and P3,500.00 from towing services.

Meanwhile, the statistical data of traffic accident reports of the RTA revealed that a total of 346 traffic accidents occurred in February this year with an estimated damage amounting to P1,689,500.00.

The same report indicated that collisions between two vehicles were the most common type of traffic accident that happened last month totaling 296 accidents.

Three persons were reported killed in those traffic accidents last month while 115 persons were injured and another two were victims of hit and run.

In its on-going traffic education, the RTA also conducted several traffic safety-reorientation, deputization and model driver seminars to a total of 1,656 drivers, students and barangay residents.
