Visiting Taiwanese officials have nothing but all praises for Cagayan de Oro and its leaders and vowed to building a strong relationship between the city and Tainan.

In a welcome dinner hosted by the city government for the 11-man delegation from Taiwan, Tainan City Mayor Hsu Tain-Tsair said that he is very impressed with the warmth and hospitality of the people in Cagayan de Oro.

Mayor Hsu said that their visit to Cagayan de Oro is a confirmation of the ties that will continually bind the two sister cities not only along economic cooperation and cultural exchange but towards the building of world peace.

“This is a new beginning for us to building peace that starts from a good relationship between our people, our cities, our country, our world,” Mayor Hsu declared.

The Tainan city mayor hoped that as sister cities, the people of Cagayan de Oro and Tainan will be there to encourage each other and work together towards the achievement of an everlasting peace and sustainable progress.

For his part, Taiwan Ambassador to the Philippines Hsin-Hsing Wu expressed optimism that with the brand of leadership Cagayan de Oro has, it is not a farfetched idea for the city to become the most important trade city in the country in the near future.

Ambassador Wu also took the occasion as an opportunity to thank Philippine Ambassador to the United States Raul Rabe who was instrumental in pushing for the realization of a sisterhood relationship between Tainan City and Cagayan de Oro.

The city has become a sister city of Tainan following a trade mission made by Vice Mayor Vicente Y. Emano and a group local businessmen and trade officials to Tainan in September 2005.

Aside from Mayor Hsu and Ambassador Wu, the other members of the Tainan delegation who visited the city are Tainan First Lady Shu-Chen Hsu Hung and son Chin-Chuan Hsu; Deputy Director General of the Dept. of Administration and Justice Ho-Sung Lin; System Coordinator of the Dept. of Administration and Justice Hung-Chih Shih; Department of Civil Affairs Chief Tai-Hua Hsiao; Substitute Chief of the Dept. of Information and International Relations Shu-Ming Huang; Director James Chang of the political affairs division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO); Director Wellington Wei of the information affairs division of TECO; and Executive Assistant Jeff Yang of the political affairs division of TECO.

Mayor Hsu and his delegation from Tainan also graced the groundbreaking ceremony of the legislative building within the city hall complex this morning before going back to Tainan.
