I don't have a cell phone and I never had the desire to get one. For me it would mean just another monthly bill that I don't need. I have always had wired landline phones and thats fine for me. I also have cable broadband Internet service and I get more enjoyment and pleasure from that than I would ever get from having a cell phone.
What really amazed me and it was something I had never seen before is all the " Texting " on cell phones when I visited CDO and Iligan City recently. Here in the USA I see people constantly talking on their cell phones. What really annoys me is when I am sitting in a Diner or Restaurant and someone near me is shouting into their cell phone. You don't have to yell into a cell phone but many seem to and it is very annoying being around people like that. At times it seems like people are Zombies walking around talking to people you can't see. In many areas it has now been outlawed to talk on a cell phone while driving unless a hands free cell phone system is used.
For me, I found it kind of humerous to see people there texting while eating at a restaurant, texting with one hand while " taking care of business " in the " CR " with the other hand, people crossing busy streets and texting etc. I spent a few nights in a popular night spot in Iigan City and looked around, not many people talking or socializing but everyone texting on the cell phones. The one advantage I could see from this is at least it is quiet and more private than talking and shouting and that is something I can certanly appreciate. One of my friends there explained that texting is about 1/8th the cost of a regular ( talking ) phone call.
With the amount of cell phones in use these days it may be more cost effective to have a cell phone instead of having a previously traditional landline phone but I think I will stay with my landline phone for the foreseeable future. For me it is a lot simpler. When I am away from my landline phone I just don't want to be bothered with phone calls ! I also prefer a wired phone as there is less chance of others listening in.
For those that are or have grown up during the " Cell Phone Generation " you may feel you are just not " Hip " without one. This is something I can understand.
